Only 10 people liked my post: that's awesome!

Sometimes it can feel like you are shouting into the void, making content for no one, putting yourself put there for 5, 10, maybe 20 people to like it. And its frustrating, believe me, I get it!

Did you know there are 2 billion users on Instagram and 1.5 billion on Tik Tok. That's a lot. We are all competing for time on the feed and we can't all possibly show up on everyone's.

Maybe you have 100 followers, maybe you have 10,000 -it's a small sliver, but its your sliver!

If 10 of your 100 followers like your post, that's 10% and if 50 of your 10, 000 followers like your post, that's 0.5% of your followers. Okay, so what? Well, what if 10 or 50 people walked up to you to tell you they liked your outfit or thought you had nice hair, what if that many people bought your art prints or said they liked your photography. You'd be blushing all the way to Sunday!

I'm sure you've heard all of this before, but are you really taking it to heart? Are you really putting it in to practice when you get 10 likes on your latest post?

One of my lasts post, I was really excited about. It got 19 likes. At first I was bummed, but then I remembered this is a new account and I only have 56 followers!! That means 33.9% of my followers liked my post - that's actually awesome. And even better yet, it was shared 5 times!

You can't compare yourself to others or set unrealistic goals - you will never succeed. Instead, create worthwhile content you feel good about and celebrate every single like, comment, and share. Thank all those 10 or 15 people for liking or commenting on your post. Grown and nurture that community.

Instagram overall analytics says that a good rate of engagement is 1%-3% of your follower count. If you have 3000 followers, then a good range of engagement is 30 to 90 likes, comments, etc. Recall how 2 billion people use Instagram? We are all fighting for each others attention and can't expect every single one of our followers to see or even like the post we made today.

Look though your analytics, do the math and then pat yourself on the back - you're probably not doing as poorly as you thought. Look at your best performing posts and reels and your lowest performing ones; compare them, look for what worked and what didn't, and use that knowledge when creating new content.

Allow yourself some grace especially if you are new, rebranding, or are finally putting in the effort to grow your account. Creating engaging, entertaining, educational, funny, and/or interesting content is the best way to get more likes and comments. Creating lack lustre or unthought out posts and reels will ensure poor results. The more you plan, stick to your content pillars, and put emotion into your content, the better it will perform.
